This year’s ‘Wild Wild West’ themed Bash will travel through South Australia before finishing in Exmouth, Western Australia, on August 27th.

Among the participants are the Beaufort team, Greg Day and Lee Murnane, who are taking part in their 25th Variety Bash together in their trusty 1979 Mercedes-Benz.

Lee said the pair were looking forward to another adventure after missing last years bash. “We will get there, it’s been a pretty reliable car,” he said. “We are excited.”

The event combines the fun of travelling Australia with Variety’s fundraising efforts, with this year’s Bash aiming to raise between $1.8 million and $2 million to support children in need.

“It’s a truly wonderful event, raising money for special kids,” Lee said. “It gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling to be able to help children that aren’t as well off as others, and it’s a lot of fun.”

For Lee, the Bash also provides an opportunity to see the hidden gems of Australia that many travellers might otherwise miss, as the convey makes their way down the beaten tracks. “It gives us the opportunity to look at Australia from the inside out,” he said.

Along the route, Variety will deliver more than $140,000 in grants to schools and regional communities, supporting children and families in the areas the Bash visits.

The bashes launch included grant presentations with a combined value of $64,500, including $50,000 towards an Early Years Inclusive Playground at Ballarat Specialist School and a $27,000 individual grant for a specialised wheelchair in Halls Gap.

The grants form part of Variety’s broader work supporting children experiencing complex medical needs, intellectual disabilities and geographic isolation.

Variety Victoria CEO Peter Bruce said the annual event continued to bring together supporters while delivering practical assistance to children and communities.

“We’re thrilled to kick off another incredible Variety Victoria Bash,” Mr Bruce said.

“This event not only brings together a vibrant community of supporters but also makes a tangible difference in the lives of children across the country. The enthusiasm and generosity of our participants are truly inspiring, and we are so grateful for their commitment to helping those in need.”
