Top Lion
A member of the Ararat Lions Club has been bestowed one of the organisations top honours. Jo Richie, who has been a Lions member for twelve years, was recently announced as the Lions V2 District Lion of the Year.

The award is given to a Lions Cabinet member who has demonstrated significant leadership contributions for the betterment of the V2 District.
Jo joined Ararat Lions in 2013 and has filled different roles including a three year stint as club secretary.
She is currently the club’s Membership Chair and also leads the clubs Youth of the Year program.
Jo told the Advocate she joined the District V2 Cabinet in 2022/2023 as Zone 9 Chairperson
“As zone chairperson I work with seven clubs in the Grampians/Wimmera to ensure that there is good communication between the district and clubs.
“In that role I support the clubs when issues arise and join the clubs for significant events.
“The clubs I support are Ararat, Willaura, Stawell, Minyip, Murtoa, Rupanyup, Green Park, Natimuk and the Grampians Northwest Branch,” she said.
Jo said one of her proudest achievement was the reinvigoration of Stawell Lions.
“In 2024 I was one of two Lions appointed Guiding Lions to support the rebuilding of the Lions Club of Stawell.
“Guiding Lions support newly formed clubs and clubs that are at risk of closing to build up membership, establish service activities and support the growth and development of club officers. Guiding Lions work with the club for two years,” she said.
