Former Geelong great Tom Hawkins made a special visit to Ararat this week as part of Nutrien Ag Solutions’ client appreciation evening.

The event, aimed at thanking local farmers and clients for their continued support, gave attendees a chance to unwind, socialize, and enjoy an evening of football drills, games, and conversation with the AFL star.

Branch Manager Duncan Thomas recognised the particularly challenging year for many in the agricultural industry.

“We know 2024 was a very tough year, and this is a way to give back. It’s also a way to welcome in the new year and the new season,” he said.

Tom Hawkins’ presence brought excitement to the event, especially for the young aspiring footballers who relished the chance to play a few games with him.

“Having a football great like Tom Hawkins come on board certainly does drive a lot of interest,” Mr Thomas said.

“It brings people out of their normal farm routines and gives them a bit of a social night.”

Beyond his football career, Tom is also involved in the agricultural sector, working with Nutrien Ag Solutions as part of their livestock development team.

“Tom is actually employed by Nutrien a couple of days a week,” Mr Thomas said. despite the star’s fame he is a farmer through and through,

“He’s a resource we can draw on to talk about livestock,” he said.

For the kids in attendance, the highlight of the night was undoubtedly getting to play alongside the AFL champion.

“The kids have absolutely loved it,” Mr Thomas said.

“You see the smiles, the kicks, and the ‘Tom, kick it to me!’, they’ve had so much fun.”
