The annual event, organised by the Ararat Show Society, kicks off at 9.30 this morning at RT White Raceway offering a full day of activities for families, agricultural enthusiasts and visitors of all ages.

While horse events won't go ahead due to the rain, other activities and exhibits are on schedule.

From show rides and wildlife encounters to live demonstrations and hands-on workshops, there will be plenty to see and do throughout the showgrounds.

One of the major attractions will be the Outback Jacks Stockman Show, showcasing traditional Australian horsemanship, working sheepdogs, herding skills and whip cracking, with a bull also featuring in the performance.

Animal lovers will have the opportunity to get up close to native wildlife and enjoy animal encounters, while children can take advantage of the rides, sideshow games and prizes.

There will also be plenty of entertainment beyond the traditional show attractions, with roving performers, science demonstrations, puppet shows and craft activities providing something different for younger visitors.

The show will celebrate the region's agricultural heritage through livestock competitions, machinery displays and other traditional show exhibits.

Visitors can also enjoy the Show and Shine display of classic vehicles, while the tractor pull and Tug-a-Truck competition are expected to appeal to motoring and machinery enthusiasts.

The popular homecraft sections will showcase local talent across a range of categories, including cookery, art, handicrafts, horticulture and other creative pursuits, while school and children's competitions will provide opportunities for younger community members to participate.

Community organisations and local emergency services will also be represented, giving visitors an opportunity to meet some of the people and volunteers who help keep the region running.

Of course, no trip to the show would be complete without a visit to Showbag Alley, along with time to enjoy the sideshow atmosphere and refreshments.

The Ararat Show will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Sunday, October 25, at RT White Raceway, with entry from Blake Street.

Admission on Show Day is $10 for adults and $5 for children aged six to 16, while children under five can enter free.
