Tap and go expands to Ararat and Beaufort
CATCHING public transport is about to become easier for Ararat and Beaufort travellers with tap and go technology installed recently at Ararat and Beaufort Railway Stations.
Works are underway to install 108 new myki readers across 37 V/Line stations that currently require a paper ticket or eTicket.
The readers will be switched on later this year, allowing passengers to tap and go at every train station in the state.
The Government says while tap and go will make it quicker and more efficient for some travellers, the old paper tickets will still be available.
People in metropolitan Melbourne and regional centres have already embraced tap and go, with more than one million trips made using a bank card or smart device since it launched last month across the myki-enabled rail network and on trams.
Four in five of those trips were made using a phone or smartwatch.
The rollout will continue later this month, with tap and go expanding across myki-enabled buses.
Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said many Victorians have taken to tap and go in a big way.
She said the rollout of the technology to Ararat and Beaufort will bring the same convenience closer to home.
"No matter where your train journey begins or ends, you'll soon be able to tap your phone, smartwatch or bank card to get where you need to go,” Ms Haylett said.
