What do 25 million plastic dog poop bags look like? Well, laid out they would stretch from Australia to Antarctica - that's a lot of plastic pollution.
Aussie startup Oh Crap and its #OhCrapFamily are celebrating saving 25,000,000 dog poop bags from landfill.
Oh Crap's dog poop bags are made from cornstarch which breaks down and compost in just THREE months.
That means no more plastic dog poop bags damaging our planet, waterways, and wildlife. You could be saving the earth, one poop at a time.
Oh Crap founder, Bruce Hultgren said their mission was to eradicate the four percent of landfill which was dog poop wrapped in plastic bags, that would never break down.
"We are now just passing 25 million dog poop bags that we saved from landfill which feels like we are well on our way to making a big difference," Bruce said.
And the name of the business comes with its own delightful story.
"Every time we threw a cheap plastic dog poop bag into the bin we thought... "oh crap".
"We got sick and tired of not being able to do something good for the environment - so we took action and we've started on a mission to try and reduce the alarming amount of landfill that is dog poop."
Their success is all owed to a poop bag that can break down much faster than those we have been using in the past. It's these simple acts that can make a huge difference to landfill around the world. and here at home.
With their ever-growing family of 70,000 dogs and their owners, the #OhCrapFamily is making a difference with the way that they dispose of their waste.
Rather than using plastic dog-poop bags which take thousands of years to break down, they choose to use Oh Crap, the compostable bag which disappears and composts completely in only three months.
From humble beginnings in a Geelong home, this future-focused company has evolved into an Australian- wide business in just four years, becoming RSPCA's preferred dog poop bag and regularly donating to guide-dog associations.
The aim is to keep saving the earth from the four percent of plastic wrapped dog poo that ends up in landfill every year.
The more the #OhCrapFamily grows, the bigger the rewards for the planet, and for our future generations
