The Ararat Rural City Council joined forces with the Australian Government's Bridges Renewal Program to rebuild Moyston's Pollands Bridge, delivering a safer and better crossing for the community.

Ararat Council chief executive Dr Tim Harrison said the redevelopment of Pollands Bridge would provide a more "reliable journey" for all motorists.

"We know safer bridges and efficient freight networks are critical for our region and the wider economy - the new span can accommodate heavier loads and will provide a more efficient and reliable journey for all road users.

"The new, two-lane concrete bridge on Pollands Road in Moyston can carry heavy loads and makes it quicker and safer for all road users to travel across Salt Creek."

Dr Harrison said it is one of the most significant projects the council has completed.

"Crews spent over eight weeks dismantling the old bridge and constructing a wider, stronger structure," he said.

"Delivering a better and safer crossing for the Moyston community has been one of the bigger infrastructure projects carried out in our region."

Dr Harrison said the newly redeveloped bridge should benefit the Moyston community for generations to come.

"Going with an InQuik Bridge System meant we were choosing a cost-effective, sustainable and low maintenance design, that will extend the lifespan for up to a century," he said.

"The finished bridge will benefit many residents and machinery operators in and around Moyston."

Contractor Earth Civil Contracting built the bridge in conjunction with the council.

The $650,000 project was jointly funded with the Australian Government's Bridges Renewal Program and Council to benefit the local community.
