I was stunned to see the anger at the anti-vaccination rallies in Melbourne and Sydney and frankly it is unacceptable.
What has happened to our country where we proudly sing 'we are one'?
The risk with vaccination is minimal particularly if you work with your GP. I've had both Astra Zeneca jabs, didn't feel it and had no reaction.
We eradicated Polio and Smallpox to name just a few through vaccination.
HAVE YOUR SAY AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS STORY
It is my belief we all have a responsibility to each other to get vaccinated. COVID is not going away!
I hear the word 'freedom' being used by these protesters.
Despite this, our freedom is at its best in Australia.
However, there is a need to understand and respect the science, listen to our exceptional health professionals.
No one person makes decisions on COVID, leaders take expert advice and implement it.
I will go as far to say that we who get vaccinated must be protected from those who won't.
This is a fundamental health and well-being stance.
Yes our economy is at stake, we cannot have a vibrant economy without a health community.
I have been somewhat quiet recently, I had major surgery at one of Melbourne's top hospitals, then rehab in Ballarat.
What astounded me was that both these respected hospitals did not offer staff vaccination. They had to source their own. People in the front line of this infection should have all been vaccinated first.
Obviously COVID-19 has been unchartered territory for our governments, there have been mistakes.
It is time now for a concerted effort to get all Australians vaccinated as soon as is possible.
Nothing will change until we limit infection.
To the anti-vaxxers, you also have a responsibility to act in the best interest of the broader community.
Get vaccinated for all our sakes. And wear a mask.
