1978. It was just a progression.
I had been through the juniors out at Richardson Oval and then I went out to Tatyoon for an extra two years of junior football and then it was a matter of moving onto a senior club.
Q. Why do you volunteer and support your club?
My father played for the club in the late '40s and early '50s, but then I very quickly understood the history of the club.
The club is important because there needs to be progression of higher level football in the area and making sure there is that stepping stone.

Q. What do you love most about the Ararat Football Netball Club?
There is lots that the Ararat Football Netball Club offers for people who want to put in a bit of time and get the most out of it and take the opportunity.
I like the competitiveness and the need to work hard and play hard. You just like to be as competitive as you can to get the most out of it at the end of the day.
Q. What is your number one highlight in your time with the Ararat Football Netball Club?
I took on doing the history of the club because up on the walls at that stage was the senior best and fairests.
But to go back, it is really interesting to find that perspective, because it is not just a football perspective it is also a social commentary on how things have developed.
Over time the netballers have always been a standout, being in close to 30 grand finals in a row.
Q. Who is the player from your club you've most enjoyed watching?
In my time, I think Paul McLoughlin would be the stand out. He played with the club in the 1990s and early 2000s.
He was just a very unassuming player, but he was a pure footballer.
There was one game up in Nhill when he numerous possessions in the first quarter and I started counting after that and he got up to about 70 by the last quarter.
He was just a sensational footballer.
