Emergency services were called to the scene of an incident on the Western Highway south of Ararat on Tuesday night, with road closures being ordered both directions.
The Ararat Advertiser understands a diesel spill on the Western Highway forced the closure of the road near Dobie due to a 700 litres diesel spill.
The highway reopened around midnight Tuesday.
VicTraffic had advised oversized vehicles travelling west to detour via the Sunraysia Highway and east bound vehicles should travel via the Pyrenees Highway.
A CFA media spokesperson said emergency services were called to the scene at around 6:40pm with a tanker leaking diesel.
They said two tankers from Ararat attended the scene, with the incident soon being categorised as "under control".
