Born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1971, Waup is an artist of Gunditjmara, Torres Strait Islander and Italian heritage with an affinity with Melanesian culture, developed through her extended family and experience of living in Papua New Guinea.
She has established her reputation as an accomplished multidisciplinary artist and curator working in Australia, specialising in weaving, printmaking, photography, sculpture and textiles.
Ararat Rural City Council chief executive Dr Tim Harrison said it was a pleasure to welcome art lovers back into the gallery for artist talks.
"Hearing artists speak about their work can be fascinating - it allows us to experience exciting works of art and to hear their story," he said.

"Weaving and printmaking are importing mediums for Lisa, as it celebrates her ancestral connections, Country, motherhood and time."
The Gallery has acquired a trio of baskets by Lisa Waup that are showcased in the exhibition titled Looking Through Time: Basketry from the TAMA Collection.
"Visitors can come and hear Lisa discuss her distinctive weaving practice, including what inspires her work and ideas she's exploring," Mr Harrison continued.
"In short, visitors can expect a seated talk that will be 20-30 minutes in duration, followed by a 10 minute Q and A session with the artist.
