In a complicated rescue, a woman fell into what seemed to be a large hole in her backyard. The hole turned out to be a mineshaft.
Rescuers needed to be incredibly careful in case the mineshaft collapsed further taking the injured woman and rescuers with it.
The woman spent some time with a broken leg, face down on the grass while her kegs and torso were submerged.
An SES spokesperson said that was the greatest delay in rescuing the woman because they couldn't risk a collapse of the mineshaft.
SES Stawell and SES Ararat Technical rescue members deployed specialist equipment and worked with Fire Rescue Victoria crews from Ballarat and Warrnambool to complete a safe rescue.
The scene was cleared at 3.30pm.
Ararat CFA and Victoria Police were also on scene.
