The 24-year-old finished 79th in the overall general classification riding for Team BikeExchange - formerly known as Mitchelton-Scott.
The Festival of Cycling was a six-day domestic event held in place of the Tour Down Under, after the historic WorldTour race was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hamilton's best result was in stage three, when he finished 72nd.
The 24-year-old largely played a support role, helping Team BikeExchange teammate Luke Durbridge take overall honours.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The festival was always going to be a way to ease back into the saddle for Hamilton, who hadn't ridden competitively since the Giro d'Italia in October 2020.
Ballarat will host the Road National Championships next week, with Hamilton intent on improving his record further down the Western Highway.
His best finish in Ballarat came last year, when he claimed second place in the road race behind teammate Cameron Meyer.
This year's road race - a 185.6km, 16-lap circuit around Mount Buninyong - is scheduled for February 7.
