The un-masked man, acting alone, started the spate of attempted burglaries in Lexton, where he jimmied the door open at the Lexton post office before ramming the front door of Pyrenees Hotel Lexton where he stole alcohol.
The man then drove about 15km to Waubra, ramming into the Waubra General Store and Post Office about 4.30am which woke a neighbour who disturbed the would-be thief.
The man managed to take a table and chair that were out the front and then sped off in the car that destroyed the front of the business.
Crime scene detectives were in Waubra on Thursday morning.
Police are now going through CCTV footage and are urging the public to come forward with any information.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
