Mr Ramsdell said he was excited to take on the role after his fellow brigade members persuaded him to do so..
"I had a lot of members approach me and encourage me to take the job on," he said.
"It was something I wanted to do, but I didn't think it would be coming up this quick.

"I've only been at the brigade for six years. But I do love a good challenge, so I thought I would give it a go."
The captain position was just one of several personnel changes to the brigade's hierarchy.
However, Mr Ramsdell said he was delighted with his new team.
"(First lieutenant) Peter (Hannan) has been with the brigade a very long time," he said.
"(Second lieutenant) Ashley (Turnham) has been at the brigade for about a year and they're both very good operators, as are (third lieutenant) Alex (Pickett), and (fourth lieutenant) Daniel Blight.
"They're a really good team of people, and I'm really excited for the future of the brigade."
Mr Ramsdell said he was also hoping the brigade could attract some new members going forth.
"Volunteer numbers are okay, but we really need to get some more members in."
He said there was plenty of incentive for new people to join.
"The comradery is great," he said.
"It's about being part of something bigger than yourself and helping the community."
The elections had been postponed due to COVID-19 meaning the previous officer and brigade management team had served beyond their two-year term.
