The Western Highway is closed Melbourne-bound between Ararat and Ballarat, due to a serious collision at Trawalla.
All Melbourne-bound traffic is being diverted onto the Pyrenees Highway through to Avoca. Then, drivers can use the Sunraysia Highway through to Ballarat.
Drivers should allow an extra thirty to forty minutes using this significant diversion. This closure is under Victoria Police control. The road will re-open when investigations are complete and it is safe to do so.
The highway remains open outbound between Ballarat and Ararat.

UPDATE 10am: A person has died in Trawalla this morning after a fatal collision along the Western Freeway.
Police media confirmed the person had died, however was unable to provide any further details at this moment.
The Major Collisions Investigation Unit is now on scene and will lead the operation into determining what happened.
Police are expected to speak about the incident shortly
EARLIER: Police and emergency services have been called to a major incident on the Western Freeway at Trawalla this morning.
Emergency services responded to the incident shortly after 7am and rushed to the scene believed to be near the the on-ramp of the freeway on the Ballarat bound lanes near the small township.
Multiple police units and Ambulance Victoria are on the scene. Worksafe is also at the location.
It is not yet known if anybody has been hurt in the incident.
The freeway remains open to traffic but the on-ramp is closed.
