Zac Nunan has put his plans of studying on hold, as he embarks on a new venture and opened a retail shop in Ararat.
The 18-year-old finished high school in 2019 and was in the midst of a gap year when he decided to take the plunge and create something he could share his passion with the Ararat community.
Trading With Zac is a new business based in 208 Barkly Street, is a gamer's 'haven' - but doesn't just appeal to those who are handy with the controllers.
From clothes, to pop culture trinkets, Mr Nunan said he was open to suggestions from the public on what to stock in his shop.
MORE BUSINESSES NEWS IN ARARAT:
"The idea came to me for the shop came from Melbourne when I was walking around the streets earlier this year and thought it was something I could bring to Ararat," he said.
"I was in the middle of a gap year and meant to be travelling the east-coast of Australia and head to Japan before embarking on an engineering course.
"That obviously didn't go to plan."
Mr Nunan's original idea was to host tournaments but with coronavirus restrictions it made it impossible to achieve.
"We decided to make the space into a retail store with game merchandise before we can get into the tournaments," he said.
"I'm really into DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) and card trading. It was a really big culture in Adelaide where I went to high school.
"Because we could only fit a few people in the space at one time, it made sense to start of slowly."
Mr Nunan said he hoped to work with other community groups and council to host events in the future.
"We're hoping we can build up a customer base in Ararat and Stawell and from there hopefully host some events in open spaces," he said.
"Our plan is to do free delivery to Ararat and Stawell for customers who are wanting to purchase items as well."
Mr Nunan's store is open seven days a week and trading hours can be found on his Facebook page.
