In weather "like four seasons in one day", emergency personnel climbed the Mt Rosea Track in search of a hiker.
Crews started the trek at about 1pm.
"We assisted Police and Ambulance Victoria in locating the hiker yesterday," Stawell SES deputy controller Brody Stewart said.
"The person was located in a tent which they had set up and was cold, and needed some medical assistance.

"It was a slow walk out and we managed to return to the car park at about 7.30pm."
Mr Stewart said the weather conditions yesterday made for a slower rescue, for everyone's safety.
"It was cold and the track, which has a lot of rocks, was very slippery," he said.
"We had snow, rain, sunshine. The entire time we were walking up there, there was water coming down the track.
"As coronavirus restrictions are eased and more people are out and about please make sure you are prepared for your hike in the Grampians."
