In a media statement on Friday, YMCA Ballarat said the decision was based on the YMCA's increased focus on young people in line with the direction of the organisation.

"The YMCA recognises and appreciates the work and valuable contribution that the many volunteers have made over considerable years at the Op Shop, as well as the support of the local community," said Brooke LeSueur, YMCA Ballarat chief executive.
The YMCA's belief 'in the power of inspired young people' and emphasis on providing opportunities for involvement, skill development and empowerment, has led to the plan to re-purpose the Op Shop site to create engaging opportunities for local young people.
