The council recruited 20 people back in May as part of the Victorian Government's Economic Survival Package.

Ararat Rural City Council chief executive Dr Tim Harrison said it was fantastic to have new team members and thought the program was a great initiative from the state government.

"They have made great contributions to the council and wider community," Dr Harrison said.

The Working for Victoria staff worked across community facilities and services such as the Ararat Fitness Centre, Community Relief Centre and Council Depot.

Many of the staff were placed in the Council Depot and have made improvements to Ararat's buildings and streetscapes.

This has included building maintenance such as painting and general repairs, installing new paths and steps, installing new underground pipe systems and cleaning local amenities to help with public safety.

"We hope that everyone has seen the great work of our new staff and are able to appreciate the hard work they have done to for our community." said Dr Harrison.

"I hope that we have been able to also assist them in return, taught them new skills and offered them some stability in this time."

The $500-million Working for Victoria initiative helps Victorians, including people who have lost their jobs as a result of coronavirus, find paid work that supports the community.
