According to the recent Bing Lee Deserving Dads Report, 82 per cent of dads have made improvements and changes at home since March 2020, with 44 per cent spending more quality time and become increasingly connected with their family.
Commissioned by the family-owned Australian retailer as part of their Father's Day campaign, the Bing Lee Deserving Dads Report highlights the recent expansion in father's roles. It found many fathers have been undertaking increased domestic duties and projects that they normally wouldn't have time for.
The national survey found almost half of dads started doing more or new household duties than they have previously, while 39 per cent of respondents claimed to have completed more activities with their children, including home-schooling, playing board games or exercise/sport, suggesting that dads have been more hands on with their families than they were previously.
The report also found more than a third of Australian dads have undertaken DIY or home renovation tasks to improve the family home during their recent time indoors, with a further 44 per cent also stating they have started doing more or new household duties, including cooking, cleaning and laundry.
Dads have also been spending more time in the kitchen this year, with more than a quarter saying they have learnt to cook different types of foods and dishes for their family.
Perhaps Dad's newfound love of creating culinary masterpieces makes kitchen appliances, such as a coffee machine, juicer or an air fryer the perfect choice to give dad this Father's Day, ensuring his newfound cooking skills continue to bring the family together.
Other key findings of the report include:
- 98 per cent of Millennial dads have made improvements/changes due to increased time spent at home during the COVID-19 lockdown and are more likely to have done so compared to Gen X dads (88 per cent) and Baby Boomer dads (71 per cent).
- Millennial dads are more likely than Gen X and Baby Boomer dads to have started doing new/more household duties (66 per cent compared to 41 per cent and 30 per cent respectively).
- Millennial and Gen X dads are more likely than Boomer dads to have been doing more activities with their children (60 per cent compared to 52 per cent and 23 per cent respectively).
- 92 per cent of Victorian dads have made improvements and changes at home since March 2020 and are more than likely to do so than dads in NSW (81 per cent) and Queensland (78 per cent).
Tasty gift ideas for Dad
Has your dad spent more time at home this year and now considers himself a bit of a wine snob, caffeine addict or food connoisseur? Why not treat him this Father's Day with a gift he can sip, swig or fillet.
If Dad's into fishing, why not catch your lunch at the start of the day, marinate the whole (or filleted) fish and give it a grill on his Father's Day present, the BBQ Buddy Fish Griller. Available in one large size to suit most fish, it can be popped straight onto a barbecue grill or hot plate and has a two-piece adjustable grid that locks in place and securely hold the fish. Available at selected Bunnings stores and hardware stores nationally.
One of Australia's most celebrated cricketers and captains, Ricky Ponting recently teamed up with the award-winning winemaker, Ben Riggs to bring Australians a reserve of delicious drops. If Dad is also a sporting fan, something from The Hamper Emporium and Ponting Wines partnership could be the perfect Father's Day treat. That, and a spot of backyard cricket.
