AFL Wimmera-Mallee has reduced salary caps by 20 per cent as the region adjusts to the consequences of a 2020 without football.
All Wimmera league clubs will have a salary cap of between $120,000 - $96,000 next year, down from between $150,000 - $120,000 in 2020.
Clubs have different salary caps based primarily upon their geographical location.
AFL Wimmera-Mallee area manager Jason Muldoon said the decision was made in reaction to the "uncertain economic period we are in".
He said extensive discussions were had with club leaders across the last several months.
"Based on feedback received in those discussions, AFL Wimmera Mallee in conjunction with the leagues has recommended that in the current climate and the uncertainty within the community that all clubs within the AFL Wimmera Mallee reduce the Allowable Player Payments (APP) by 20%," he said in a statement.
"AFL Wimmera Mallee Commission would like to thank all Clubs for engaging in frank and honest dialogue in regards to the reduction of the Salary Caps for 2021 and considering the health of football into the future in the Wimmera Mallee."
More to come.
