Face masks are not compulsory in regions outside metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire.
But Goodstart Early Learning, which operates five centres in Greater Bendigo, confirmed its staff in regional Victoria were being encouraged to wear masks in a number of work settings.
Educators have been asked to wear masks while checking students' temperatures at the start of the day and when they have to be closer than 1.5 metres to another adult. A Goodstart Early Learning spokesperson confirmed staff were not required to wear a mask while working with children in the learning spaces.
"Any Goodstart staff member can wear a mask if it makes them feel safer in the workplace," the spokesperson said.
"We are closely monitoring the latest heath advice from the department to ensure we provide the best possible support for our children, families, and staff."
Jenny's Early Learning Centre managing director Darren Reid said his centres have been conducting temperature checks for several weeks. Mr Reid said while Jenny's ELC had not enforced a position on masks, the centres would support any educators who chose to wear a face mask at work.
The Department of Health and Human Services advised it was not mandatory for teachers and educators to wear a face covering while working with children in early learning services.
