Dunmore, who is part of the Ballarat Miners' squad, has expressed his interest in returning to his home club after coronavirus restrictions forced the abandonment of the Miners' season.
Redbacks' coach Marcus Jenkins said Dunmore was a "huge" boost to the team.
"It's not only what he can bring on the court but it's the knowledge he can pass onto other players, especially some of our younger ones," he said.
"For him to come back and take the opportunity and play with his mates and help build his home club speaks volumes of his character.
OTHER NEWS:
"He has played at one of the highest level in Australia and just for him to be there and support the players and give them some of the up and coming players in Ararat some guidance on the court will be beneficial."
Jenkins said the Redbacks were looking to be in a good position if the season was to go ahead.
"We've been busy recruiting, trying to get some extra players to come play at the Redbacks this year," he said.
"The outlook for the season has been made a little easier from my end because there is no football season. There are players who aren't doing anything and keen to start training early.
"I've already had some interest in some footballers who are part of the team who normally during preseason are trying to split their time between football and basketball."
Jenkins said players wouldn't experience as much fatigue during the season after missing a football season.
"You could see some were getting burnt out," he said.
"It's a tough ask to play a full season of football and like last year go deep into footy finals and then back up a full basketball season.
"Touch wood there is less of a chance injury could occur from going to one sport to another.
"The bonus of football is most of the players are already fit but I know they have been keeping fit over this Winter as well."
Training for the Redbacks hasn't started due to restrictions on public gatherings.
"I'm keen to get back on court but we've got to monitor the COVID-19 situation and iron out some creases," Jenkins said.
"As soon as we can we'll be back out on the court but the players have been doing some work themselves at home."
