Frequently seen hovering around the Kokoda Park site lending a helping hand, David Dennett lamented the prolonged closure of the Men's Shed from his home.
"The council advised us, along with other council-run organisations like the YMCA and library, to close down in April due to COVID-19," he said.
"As the restrictions were lifted in June, we saw the YMCA and library reopen, but we remained closed.
"Our secretary made some enquiries with the council, but no one ever got back to us.
"We were getting close, but I think after today's news any hope of reopening is on the back burner."
While there are no new cases of the coronavirus in the Ararat Rural City Council, the total number of cases in Victoria is 2824.
Mr Dennett said the lengthy shutdown might affect the health and well-being of the group's members.
"I'm getting a bit frustrated with the closure myself," he said.
"I'm no expert on any tool myself, but I enjoy helping others, sitting down for a coffee and having a chat with other members.
"That's what the Men's Shed is all about.
"Naturally there is a concern (about contracting COVID-19) because our members are older."
The president said there had been several enquiries from new and returning members as to when we would open again.
