Offenders allegedly broke into St Arnaud Mail and Gifts between 3.30am and 4.30am on April 29, after arriving at the site in a car stolen from Melbourne's east.

The car, a Toyota Camry, was torched at the site.

The offenders allegedly stole a variety of items before stealing a white Volkswagen Caddy from the post office and fleeing.

St Arnaud Sergeant Bill Alford said two people suspected of the crime were arrested after a short police pursuit in Pakenham on Friday.

He said police used stop sticks on the Volkswagen Caddy to end the pursuit.

A Pakenham man was remanded in custody until November.

A Cranbourne woman was charged and will appear before a Melbourne court.

Sergeant Alford said the postie van was undamaged except for the stop stick use.

He said a small number of items stolen from the post office were also recovered.

After the burglary, St Arnaud Mail and Gifts owner Helen Rigby said she was thankful no one was at the business when the alleged burglary happened.

Mrs Rigby said the burglary was heartbreaking.

"We're devastated and feel basically violated," she said.

"We're exhausted. It's going to take us time to get over this emotionally."
