This was Stawell Neighbourhood House at its best - bringing the community together to build resilience and strength. Little did we know how those qualities would be tested in the ensuing weeks.
That evening we heard from Kate Pryde, the relatively new chief executive of Stawell Regional Health, an engaging speaker who was already was advising the community to treat the virus as though it was already here.
On March 12, the community lunch went ahead. SNH co-ordinator Christine Dearman met with community leaders on March 13 to discuss the coronavirus pandemic and devise ways to minimise the spread while keeping people socially connected (though physically distanced).
The doors closed on March 24. But our phone lines remains open and our Second Bite program is still operating. Due to stage 3 restrictions, there have been some changes: you now need to book an appointment to collect food hampers (available Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 2pm). Be aware only one person can enter to collect food.
Our Facebook page is now the open door to Stawell Neighbourhood House.
There you will find online versions of some of our regular activities and information on staying socially connected. Stawell Neighbourhood House is here to help in anyway it can.
