The club announced that two-time Kyabram premiership player Aaron Hayes had signed in November, bolstering the Horsham District league side's midfield stocks.
But Hayes has since seemingly changed his mind, instead signing with the Nullawil Football Club, the reigning premiers in the Golden Rivers football league.
Edenhope-Apsley coach Guy Smith said it was a disappointing turn of events.
Smith however was optimistic of securing several more signings before the start of the season.
"He has had a change of heart unfortunately, so that's his decision," Smith said.
"We're hopeful we will be able to replace what he would have provided with a few more guys."
The Saints have two pre-season matches against Nhill and the Horsham Saints before their season begins against the Swifts on April 18.
