UPDATE, Wednesday, 2pm:
GWM Water has confirmed the cause of the water outage that affected residents in the Ararat region Tuesday evening.
"A major main break caused low pressure and in some cases outages for customers in parts of Ararat until about midnight on Tuesday 25 February," she said.
"The water main affected was located under a concrete table drain. This made the investigation of the water main difficult. Due to the difficulty in diagnosing the problem it took longer than usual to resolve the problem.
"GWMWater apologises for any inconvenience caused. If Ararat customers are still experiencing issues with their water supply, they should call us any time on 1800 188 586."
