Wood has been named in the Richmond Tigers' side to play against one of the early-season premiership favourites North Melbourne on Sunday afternoon.
After impressing in the pre-season with her quickness and tenacity, Wood has been named on the wing for her dream debut.
Speaking with Australian Community Media prior to the season, Wood said high pressure was something she wanted to bring for the Tigers.
She said she expected a serious challenge at the top level.
"Tackling is something I enjoy most about football, that's something I think I could bring out this season," she said.
"VFL was a big step up from (GWV) Rebels, and now the step up to AFL will be even further.
"It's a lot more physical - I think the physicality of the game, being a lot quicker, and with bigger bodies to come up against (will be a challenge)."
The Tigers are still searching for their first victory of the season after losses to Carlton and the Gold Coast across the opening two rounds.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 3:10pm from Ikon Park in Carlton.
More to come.
