The strong Youth Club bowling attack made it a short afternoon as they bowled the Gappers out for just 105 runs. Fazi B led the way for the Gappers with 23 with support from Ricky McIntosh, 21. Harvey Evans managed to take 6/59 to be the standout bowler for the Clubbers. In reply, Youth Club lost six wickets in passing the Gappers score, finishing on 6/126. Ethan Marrow made 77 not out to lead the way. Fazi B backed up his efforts to take 3/25 with the ball, while Dillon Micallef showed he will be a star of the future, also taking three wickets including Youth Club's top run scorer and captain, Nic Baird. An outright looks ominous for the Gappers unless they can dig deep in their second innings.
On a soft pitch at Alexandra Oval, St Andrews batted first against Swifts Great Western. Mick Harricks was the only batsman to get among the runs, making 29. Jaiden McCartney took 6/19, while young Albert Eldridge took 3/18 with his spinners. Swifts, in reply, are only two runs behind St Andrews, finishing the day on 2/78 with Sam Cocks leading the way with 54 runs. SGW may push the game to an outright result to solidify top spot and the minor premiership.
In the last game at Gordon Street, Challambar went up against Pomonal. Not much score information is available for this game as Pomonal didn't enter their scores into My Cricket, while Chally played four unregistered players under false names. Both clubs were in breach of the association bylaws. Chally will be asked to front the pennant committee to explain their actions, while Pomonal will be fined. The scores available for this game shows that Pomonal batted first and made 125. In reply, Chally could only manage 79. Pomonal, batting a second time, were 1/11 at stumps. The final outcome of this game may be decided by the pennant committee before the game resumes.
In B Grade, things are tight from first to fifth place, with all positions up for grabs. There were some interesting results as the race for finals heated up. Third-placed Buangor Tatyoon hosted fourth-placed Rhymney Moyston. BT batted first (their only option after winning the toss as they only had four players available for the start of play). Ryan Weppner and Charlie Dyer gave them a good start before Charlie was out for 31; Ryan going on to top score with 38. Jaxon Edwards made the most of a rare opportunity at the bowling crease and, like other keepers before him this season, managed to take 2/17. Glen Cosgriff and Daniel Taylor also took two wickets each. In reply, only David Turner and extras could manage to get going, making 30 each. Charlie Dyer led the bowling for BT with 2/20, while James Phillips and Callum Baker also took two wickets each, restricting Rhymney Moyston to just 109 in reply.
In the heavyweight battle between first and second placed teams, SGW managed to reclaim top spot with a win over Aradale. SGW finished on 4/108, with Marc Brilliant leading the way with 61 not out while S Chithapalli took 3/23 for Aradale. Only Tyler Cronin with 31 runs was able to make an impression with the bat, making 31 of their total of 9/102. Marc Brilliant led the for SGW, taking 4/7, while Marc Collins returned to the lineup, taking 3/15. This result put SGW back on top of the ladder coming into the final round, while Aradale and Buangor Tatyoon are only separated from SGW by percentage.
At Navarre, another tight game was expected with both sides needing to win to keep any finals chance alive. Navarre managed to come out on top after a gallant fight by Wickliffe Lake Bolac. Only 15 runs separated the two sides after 80 overs of cricket. Luke Wilkinson led the way for Navarre, making 101 not out, while D Bibby made 54. Byrce Evans took 3/28 with the ball while his younger brother took 2/25. In reply, W/LB fell just short of the total, with L Fitzpatrick making 40, while Doug Remfrey and Luke Blake both made 32 runs. This makes Navarre's final game against Rhymney Moyston a must win for both sides to determine the fourth on the ladder.
In the last game, Halls Gap managed their first win of the season against a struggling Pomonal. Adam McCormack continued his good recent form to post an unbeaten 127, while Riley Thomas gave good support with 39 runs. In reply, Pomonal were bowled out for 106, with another youngster in Toby Ripper taking an impressive 3/3. As no scores have been entered by Pomonal, it's difficult to write about who did what.
No scores from either under 16 game were posted this week, which is unfortunate as the grand final is this Sunday. As the ladder stands, it will be between Tatyoon and Swifts Great Western.
In the under 13s, St Andrews managed to defeat Halls Gap to take home the trophy. In a high-scoring final, St Andrews finished on 6/141 while restricting the strong Halls Gap lineup to 4/119.
As A grade is heading into the last day of the home and away fixture, the results seem pretty obvious who will win - it will all come down to who can win outright, with all three games having that possibility.
In B Grade, it's a different story, as no spot is secured.
