This year our residents, businesses, visitors and tourists will be able to take advantage of terrific growth in the region thanks to some major projects coming to fruition at a similar time.
Since being rezoned in 2013, the Sloane Street residential development is in the final stages before building can begin as we enter into negotiations with the preferred developer.
This project will provide up to 110 houses which will create lots of work for local builders and contractors to bring this exciting new housing project to life.
The hydroponic farm being constructed by Nectar Farms in Joel Joel took another step closer this week when we met with representatives from the farm.
The project's permit application was approved in February last year and Nectar Farms assured us they are almost ready to begin work constructing the glasshouses on the eight-hectare site.
The farm will create 350 jobs in the Northern Grampians and have the added bonus of drawing clean power directly from the Bulgana Wind Farm.
The upgrades to Lord Nelson Park will give the people of St Arnaud a world-class sporting venue, offering multipurpose use by all sports in a unisex environment, all driven by the hard work of the St Arnaud Recreation Advisory Group.
During construction of the new complex, which is expected to begin in the next 12 months, local builders and contractors will benefit from this significant investment.
The council has also worked closely with Gilmac over the past few years to get their St Arnaud operation off the ground and it continues to provide steady employment in the northern parts of the shire.
The new On The Run service station and retail outlet on Ararat Road is on track to open before Easter.
The store will employ at least 55 staff across three shifts 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the development has already created 40 new trade jobs during construction.
We are also looking to the future as well by conducting the SSAC Feasibility Study to determine how we can best improve community infrastructure to cater to the needs of the people.
We have extended the deadline for the community consultation survey to Saturday February 22 so make sure you head to our website and take the opportunity to give us your feedback.
These are just some of the key growth projects and plans the council has been a partner in or worked on in the past few years.
The Northern Grampians Shire Council will continue to build, advocate and work for you at every opportunity.
