Dr Beagley joined Western Victoria PHN in May 2017.

In a statement, Western Victoria PHN chair Lynne McLennan said Dr Beagley had "demonstrated highly effective leadership during her three years as chief executive".

"(She) has worked extremely hard to better align the organisation to meet the health care needs of our community and to provide support for health care providers," Ms McLennan said.

"She has significantly progressed the work of WVPHN in achieving positive health outcomes for western Victoria, whilst at the same time interpreting and navigating a complex policy environment."

Dr Beagley has been appointed chief executive of Mental Health Australia. She will finish at Western Victoria PHN on April 9.

"I am very proud of how far staff and management and the executive have brought WVPHN during my tenure. It has been a privilege to lead this team," Dr Beagley said.

"I am very confident I leave the organisation well-placed to move forward, capitalise on the changes now consolidating and making a real difference to the health of the western Victoria community.

"My new appointment brings together decades of my experience and provides a platform for influence on a national scale, at a time where mental health reform is well underway and the policy focus on mental ill health is at an all-time high."

WVPHN facilitates the delivery of primary health care across western Victoria and encompasses 21 local government areas including Horsham, Ballarat, Geelong, Ararat, Warrnambool and Stawell.
