Crossing items off the health service's "wish list", Lions club was able to hand over almost $20,000 for vital equipment for staff and patients.

Acting nurse unit manager Amy Yole said the urgent care centre was now equipped with two advanced cardiac monitoring devices while the transition care programs received new furniture.

Ms Yole said the new and upgraded advanced cardiac monitoring devices allowed increased monitoring of critically ill patients.

"We received a new machine and also upgrade and existing one which we already had," she said.

"It has extra attachments which allows us to do more in a regional area and keep patients safer for longer until they are transferred out."

Ms Yole said the urgent care centre at the hospital had undergone a 30 per cent increase in category one and two presentations in the past 12 months.

Rooms associated with the transitional care programs have been upgraded with "home-like" features to help patients in their transition from hospital to the home.

"The program gives us and the patient the best opportunity to transition before they go home," Ms Yole said.

"It allows services in place to work out what is needed to return home. Some patients might need a little bit more time to rehabilitate while others might need to have work done on their house to make it suitable.

"These rooms allow us to see patients in a home-like situation in getting up and off the couch to even using things like a washing machine and dryer to hanging their clothes on a clothes horse.

"With funding from the Lions Club we were able to purchase some new sofas for the rooms."

Lions Club president Marie Hosking said the club was "delighted" to support the local health service.

"The Lions Club felt they could help in bridging the gap between funding the hospital can receive through the government for the essentials they require and what they would like to have to make the services provided better, for the community," she said.

"The Lions Club is always looking for opportunities to partner with local organisations where we can invest in the future for the community."
