Authorities located the 82-year-old Serpentine man's body just before midday in the Pyrenees Range State Forest near Glenpatrick on Tuesday January 21.
Mr Whinfield was last seen leaving a family event in Lake Bolac on Christmas day.
Family raised the alarm when he did not return to his Serpentine home the following day and authorities commenced a search in the bushland around the Glenpatrick region.
In the wake of an initial large-scale response, the search for Mr Whinfield was wound back but has consistently continued.
On December 27 Mr Whinfield's red Nissan ute was found on Emery Track, Glenpatrick.
Mr Whinfield's death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
