The former netballer has held roles within the Wimmera league club for many years, stepping back into the role she once had more than 10 years ago.
Polkinghorne was a player-coach before having time off to have children and since then, played on and off.
"I did come back and commit playing a few years ago now," she said.
"I did my knee so decided to go down the path of coaching more in-depth.
"I co-coached B Grade two years ago and was the assistant coach last year."
Polkinghorne's biggest motivator behind coaching will come from the drive to develop players. She has coached the modified players at the club for the past five years.
"I've done some study involving sport and recreation and just finished my bachelor of psychology," she said.
"My focus this season will be about player development, mental toughness and resilience.
"We're not going to go from not winning games to a premiership overnight. I think it's time to bring mental strength strategies to the players."
Polkinghorne is looking to build consistency this season after a disruptive 2019 that saw Emma Beer taking the lead job from Mandy Stephan midway through the season.
'We struggle with numbers, being a bit further away from Horsham than other clubs," she said.
"We find it hard to get travelling players for training just because of the distance.
"We recruit pretty heavily when there is a new teacher in town or an allied health worker. It's hard because those players come for a few years and then generally move away again."
Polkinghorne said player retention was difficult due to the location of the town.
"A lot of people who come from work only come for a few years and then leave again," she said.
"Our younger players who play through the ranks go off to study or work elsewhere.
"Keeping the players and quality players can be difficult for the club."
Polkinghorne said netball director Rebecca Clark was in the process of player recruitment and list management.
"Hopefully we can get some more numbers on the court and really develop our netball right across the board," she said.
