In A grade, Halls Gap hosted a depleted Youth Club but were unable to make inroads into a still pretty strong batting line up after being bowled out for just 83.
With Josh Leith being the only batsman to make an impact with the bat making 30 runs, while extras made up 17 of the total.
A highlight was the catching abilities of two veterans making up the numbers for Youth Club.
Charlie Baird with four catches and Glen Boag taking two showing they have lost little of their talents over the years. Hope we haven't seen the last of them in Youth Club colours.
Nic Baird shed the gloves and dominated with the ball, taking 4/10, with wickets shared amongst the other bowlers. In reply, Nic Baird again led the way with 41 not out and Damon Folkes finishing 38 not out, allowing the two veterans to sit back and relax as they weren't required to bat.
Swifts Great Western made a short day of it with a big win over St. Andrews, restricting them to just 39 runs.
Batting first, SGW made 7/245. Tom Eckel returned to A grade and picked up where he left off the previous week, adding 76 runs, while Rick Peters made 70 and Sam Cocks with 46 runs.
Ned Bohner took 3/45 to be the pick of the St. Andrews bowlers. L Patching and Albert Eldridge taking 3/6 and 3/8 respectfully to ensure an early finish to the day.
Pomonal made 6/155 off their 40 overs against Chalambar, with Mick Armstrong leading the way with 46 runs, L Brewis making 43 while Luke Walker with 2/20 and Chad Gilmore 2/23 were the pick of the bowlers.
Lachie Dalkin picked up his first five in A grade, showing he will be a top A grade bowler in the future, finishing with the outstanding figures of 5/10, while Mick Armstrong backed him up with 3/3 in Chalambar's low total of just 45 runs.
In B grade, Buangor/Tatyoon took on Rhymney Moyston at Moyston.
Youngster Charlie Dyer led the way with a well compiled 91 while Ryan Weppner made 30 in a total of 7/158.
The newest member of the 50 year old club, David Cosgriff took 4/27 to show the younger brigade how to bowl line and length to be the only bowler to take more than one wicket.
In reply only Daniel Taylor with 33 and Glen Cosgriff with 22 not out could make a dent in the bowling attack, led by Charlie Dyer with 3/30, while Will Joyce conceded only seven runs off his eigh overs, making it difficult for the batsmen to get on top of the bowling.
Swifts Great Western got over Aradale in a reasonably close game. Mitch Wood led the way for Aradale batting, making 45 out of a total of 112.
Cam and Will Wickham chimed in towards the end of the innings, taking 3/1 and 3/16 respectively. L. Moloney led the way for SGW making 49 in their reply of 4/118. M Fulton took 2/26 for Aradale.
Pomonal came out on top in another close game against Halls Gap. Young Toby Ripper taking 3/26 with his spinners while Ryhellie Chamberlain chipped in with 2/21, restricting Pomonal to a total of 6/124. A lack of Pomonal scores in MyCricket makes it difficult to highlight of their results. The Gappers could only manage 6/108 in their turn to bat, with Ryhelie Chamberlain making 33 not out while extras contributed 24.
Wickliffe Lake Bolac managed to get a win on the board against Navarre in a close game, making 4/131 in reply to Navarre's 7/129. Veteran Phil Hall led the way with 28 not out while Lochie Wilkinson made 26 and A Shovan made 22. Stuart Ford took 3/18 for W/LB. In reply, L Fitzpatrick made 46 and Trevor Remfrey 39 to lead the way home while Luke Blake finished with 26 to ensure W/LB's win with a couple of overs to spare. A Shovan finished with 2/34 for Navarre.
Scores are again a bit light on in under 16s this week. SGW defeated Aradale in a wet finish to the game and scorers struggled to see who was doing what at the finish. SGW 6/145 defeating Aradale who finished on 7/79 after their allotted overs. Tatyoon on the turf at Tatyoon made 4/97 against Halls Gap's lowly 3/40.
In the under 13s, St. Andrews made 4/94 against Buangor 1's 5/56. Five St Andrews batsmen made it to 10+ in a that total. Buangor 2 just fell short against Wickliffe Lake Bolac, B2 making 8/78 while W/LB made 2/87. Pomonal finished on 9/53 against Halls Gap's 3/135. Luke Jackson making 15 for Pomonal while B Baker with 2/7 and B O'Donahue took 2/12. Brady McMahon led the batting for the Gappers with 35 while J Baker made 21 and Bailey Stirling made 20. Tatyoon made 4/43 against SGW to fall short of SGW's total of 2/52.
Well this weekend of games will be fought out for the much respected Henry Gunstone Cup.
The winners have a choice of participating in either the Sungold Cup in Warnambool or attending Cricket Willow games.
The Northern Grampians based teams will play their round robin games at Central Park while the Ararat Rural City based teams will play their Games at Alexandra Oval. The final on Sunday will most probably be played at Alexandra Oval commencing at 11am.
Three games will be played at each venue on Saturday, which will make for some entertaining cricket. The boundaries, especially at Alexandra Oval, will be brought in to allow for more boundaries to be hit.
Only four players will be able to patrol the boundary, giving the big hitting batsmen plenty of space to hit to or over the boundary. Free hits for front foot no balls will also be in place. Teams can be changed between games.
Legend of Grampians cricket, Henry Gunstone will be there to watch and present his trophy to the winning team on Sunday. The winning team will also pocket $300. No predictions this week as the T20 game can be very unpredictable.
Just a note about the up coming game between St. Andrews and Chalambar. A perpetual trophy will be presented to the winning team in memory of Herbie Bourke.
It's believed both teams will be getting together to host a function after the game to raise funds for Herbie's family. More to come when both teams have sorted out the details.
