It was a disappointing start to the Grampians cricket round for players and executive alike.

First up we had to shift what was to be the first game on Alexandra Oval, as the equipment had broken down and Chalambar were unable to prepare a pitch through no fault of its own, then we had three teams forfeit - including ladder leader, St.Andrews in A grade.
This was extremely disappointing in that it's the premier grade in the competition and as such, shouldn't be subject to forfeits - especially on the first day of a two-day game.
B Grade is a different story, with both Chalambar and Youth Club struggling to field two sides. Youth Club managed to field a side the week prior - the only time either side has managed to field a team this season.
After discussions between the clubs and executive, both sides have decided to withdraw their B Grade sides for the rest of the season in fairness to the other clubs and players. A revised draw is now on the MyCricket site to reflect the withdrawn teams. The last round went ahead as scheduled with two teams receiving the forfeit points.
Chalambar had its game shifted to Gordon Street Oval. Halls Gap managed to bowl Chally out for a gettable total of 187 if they can hang onto their wickets while trying to chase the runs.
Chad Gilmore got amongst the runs, top-scoring with 33, extras contributed 32, while Sonny Walton made 30. Brian Driscoll, with 2/16 and Dillon Micallef 2/33, the pick of the bowlers. At 2/12 at the end of the day and Charlie McIntosh back in the pavilion, Halls Gap may struggle to reach the total. Brian Driscoll will have to use all his patience and hope others support him if they are to chase down the runs.
At Central Park, the new covers had arrived from Carey Covers and SGW wasted no time in putting them down on Friday night. Sam Cocks relished the opportunity to bat first on the turf, posting the first century of the season, making 121 out of a total of 221. Matt Hefer supported him with 32 but no other batsman could get past 20.
The wickets were shared around with Clint Slorach, Cam Kimber, Abi Veerma and Harvey Evans each taking two wickets. Youth Club has started the run chase, only losing last week's B grade top-scorer, Nathan Churchill early and have Bailey Taylor and Nic Baird at the crease with 33 runs on the board. Youth Club has the firepower in the shed to make the runs but they won't find it easy against a strong SGW bowling attack, I expect this game won't be over until late in the day, with a close result ensuing. St. Andrews handed Pomonal a win by forfeit, which could gain them an extra four points if Chalambar gets its bowling on track early and force an outright result.
In B grade, only two games to report about due to Buangor/Tatyoon and Pomonal failing to post any scores up at the time of my report. Rhymney Moyston took on Navarre at Moyston with a poor batting performance by R/M making it a short day for all. In making only 90 runs, extras top-scored with 24, while Nathan Quick and Daniel Taylor made 22 and 20 respectively. M Bibby with 3/25, Nick Formosa 2/20 and Corey Wilkenson taking 2/19. Corey backed his bowling up with 54* with the bat, 18 extras also helped the scoring along, meaning no other batsman had to dig deep to get past the low total, finishing on 3/101.
At Wickliffe, the home side batted first. Bryce Evans, 32 and L Fitzpatrick, 33, put on 51 for the first wicket but fell away after that to only post 112, with extras contributing 21 to that total. M Fulton with 4/11 and Tyler Cronin taking 3/7 doing most of the damage with the ball. Tyler backed up his bowling by making 27 with the bat, Brodie Taylor complimenting last weeks brushing off the cobwebs with 24 while Trav Horvatek finished with 19* in the team's total of 3/120. The other two games were won by Halls Gap and SGW by forfeit.
In Under 16s, another close result with just two runs between Aradale and SGW at the end of the day. Aradale getting home. In the other game between Halls Gap and Tatyoon, Tatyoon secured a comfortable win out at the Gap. Brady McMahon top-scored with 24 in the total of 7/53. Bowling was shared around with most bowlers getting one wicket each. In reply, Lachie Dalkin top-scored with33*, Sam Phillips with 28* and Zac Peachey making 31* in a total of 2/125. T Hoffman the only wicket-taking bowler, finishing with1/9.
This week sees A Grade continue on into the second day of play, while B grade continues with one -day games. Navarre is at home to Buangor/Tatyoon. Navarre sent a message out last week that they are a team to be reckoned with when everyone is available, brushing aside Rhymney Moyston fairly easily. I would expect them to continue on from where they left off last week, although it won't be easy if the Baker brothers play this week.
SGW take on R/M in Great Western, the combine will be out for some revenge after losing the semi-final to R/M at this ground last season. With a couple of its leading players up in A Grade, it should make for a close, interesting game. Pomonal plays Wickliffe Lake Bolac at Pomonal. If a few more batsmen support Bryce Evans, they should post a pretty good score on the quick Pomonal ground and make it very difficult the home side's batsmen to reign in. Halls Gap takes on Aradale out at the Gap in what on paper looks to be a one-sided game. The Gappers won't be short on confidence to take on Aradale but with the number of experienced players in the Aradale side, I fear a heavy defeat is on the cards for the Gappers.
In Under 16s, Aradale also plays Halls Gap, while SGW takes on Tatyoon. Looking at the results so far, I would expect two more very close games again.
In Under 13s, Halls Gap is at home to Buangor 1, while Buangor 2 is at home to St. Andrews. SGW takes on Pomonal, while Tatyoon will be at home against Wickliffe Lake Bolac.
My tips in A Grade are still Chalambar and Youth Club, while in B Grade, Navarre, SGW, W/LB & Aradale.
Can we ask for ALL scores to be posted by 6pm Sunday so the results can be printed in all papers please, otherwise fines can be issued, as per the bylaws. This applies to both senior grades and juniors.
