This week sees the start of two-day games in A grade whilst B grade continue with one-day games.
This week sees Chalambar taking on Halls Gap at Gordon Street. Chally were missing a few players last week which showed in only making 42 against Youth Club. They won't find Halls Gap as strong an opposition, but can't take them lightly. Sam Pilgrim was the only batsman to get a real start last week so they will be hoping youngster Will Cooper can get a few runs, as well as Ryan Bertram and Josh Bywaters. But Josh Reid and Brian Driscoll will make it difficult for the Chally batsmen.
SGW take on Youth Club at Central Park. Youth Club have made light work of their opponents so far this season. With the semi-retired Damon Folkes taking a career best 5/7 last week, backed up by Cam Kimber with 5/29, they form a strong bowling attack which will keep Sam Cocks, Tom Eckel and Travis Nicolson under pressure. SGW have some quality bowlers in their line up, led by Matt Hefer and L Patching, so Youth Club will have a real test this game.
Pomomal tackle St. Andrew's at the Pomonal Recreation Reserve. Pomonal struggled last week against the strong SGW attack and it won't get any easier against St Andrew's after Mick Harricks and Ned Bohner got among the wickets last week, getting four each. Pomonal will need Luke Jordan and Clayton Mackley to get them off to a good start.
In B grade, we have Chally taking on Halls Gap at the Gordon Street oval. Hopefully Chally will field a side this week after forfeiting last round. Halls Gap managed to post a competive total last week with Adam McCormack making 26, supported by former captain Simon Crowe with 20. The Gappers will be hoping a couple of others can support them to make a good score.
Buangor/Tatyoon play Pomonal at Buangor this Saturday. With the Baker boys making runs and taking wickets, they are still riding high after winning the reserves premiership with SMW Rovers. With Ryan Weppner getting among the runs last week, they will be hoping for others like Tom Taurau and youngster James Phillips to spend some time in the middle if they don't bat first. Pomonal only made 25 runs all out last week in a disappointing result for them.
SGW will battle it out against Youth Club, who almost stole a win last week on the back of Nathan Churchill making 44*, with support from new recruit Abi Verma's hard hitting 25. Max and Albert Eldridge have returned to SGW and made an immediate impact with the bat, making 32 and 36 respectively. SGW have batting depth that could trouble the wily veteran Rob Scott, 3/42 last week and Abi Verma, 4/37.
Rhymney Moyston play Navarre at Moyston in what should be a close game. With Glen and David Cosgriff showing the way with steady bowling, the others followed their lead, bowling Youth Club out last week around their top scorer. Kris Ellis led the way again with 38 runs, big hitting Matty Dean made 28 and David Turner 22. Navarre had a tough but well-fought out game last week, with Nic Formosa bowling well for his two wickets and Luke Wilkinson making 39 with the bat.
After a false start last week for Wickliffe Lake Bolac, they will be keen to get out on the ground this week against Aradale. With Brodie Taylor returning from uni, he enjoyed his return of 81* with the bat and 5/25 with the ball. He got good support from youngster Haydon Dowling, 3/23. M. Fulton made 37 in Aradale's total last week. W/LB will be hoping Byrce Evans will find some form with both bat and ball if they are to have a chance against a strong Aradale lineup.
In the under 16s, last week Halls Gap was too strong for Aradale, while Tatoon just fell short against SGW by three runs. This week sees Aradale take on SGW while Halls Gap play Tatyoon in a two-day game. In under 13s, some close games between Buangor 1 and Tatyoon saw Buangor 1 get home by just three runs while SGW got home by 15 runs against Buangor 2. St. Andrew's had a big win by 60 runs against Halls Gap. No scores were posted by Pomonal or Wickliffe Lake Bolac. This Sunday will see SGW play Buangor at North Park, Buangor 2 at home to Halls Gap, Wickliffe Lake Bolac take on St. Andrew's at Wickliffe while Pomonal take on Tayoon at Pomonal.
