UPDATE: 4pm Wednesday
A Powercor spokeswoman has confirmed the cause of the outage was the result of an animal coming into contact with the powerlines.
"Our crews were able to safely restore power to about 103 customers within 50 minutes this morning following a fault that occurred on our network," she said.
"An animal came in contact with powerlines, causing a high voltage fuse to operate and shut off power to customers.
"The fault occurred about 9.25, with power restored by 10.15.
"We thank customers for their understanding while our crews worked to get power back on as safely and quickly as possible."
EARLIER:
THE cause of a power outage effecting 103 homes in Ararat is under investigation Thursday morning.
Powercor's website states that the outage occurred on Wilmot Street, and that estimated restoration is about 11am.
Also according to the website the cause is related to interference from a bird or a bat.
The outage is not a part of the recent planned outages across the town, which were implemented to allow for the installation of new technology to reduce bush fire risk from power lines.
Powercor has been contacted for comment.
More to come.
