THIEVES have taken advantage of a scheduled power outage in Ararat and broken into Harris Automotive overnight, stealing wheels, rims, and other car parts.
Sergeant Simone Prictor said police believe the offences occurred between 10pm Thursday night and 9am the following morning.
"The premises was unattended and locked up," she said.
"Unknown offenders have cut a section of the cyclone fence and gained access to the car yard part of the premises.
"They've stolen the wheels and rims off two separate vehicles and also accessed one vehicle and stripped the interior - taken seats, the head unit of the stereo and door trimmings."
In the weeks leading up to the offence Powercor delivered letters to residents and businesses in that section of Ararat advising them that the power would be cut off between 10.15pm and 3.15am.
"Everyone was aware that between the hours of 10pm and 3am that there would be a power outage," Sergeant Prictor said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Ararat police on 5355 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000, where residents can make anonymous reports.
