St Arnaud police were called to a Newall Street property about 6.30pm on Tuesday.
Sergeant Bill Alford said a man was allegedly assaulted with a hammer and property was stolen from the house.
He said three offenders were involved.
St Arnaud police later stopped the two men, aged 27 and 22, and a woman, 35, all of Melton, while they were travelling on the Wimmera Highway later that evening.
Sergeant Alford said police arrested the trio, and they are due to appear before Horsham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
"The offenders were charged with assault, aggravated burglary and theft of property," he said.
"The man who was assaulted was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital will extensive head injuries."
