Travelling to Mt Gambier, the Wildcats went into the game as the underdogs, re-joining the competition this season after a two-year hiatus.
The players started off slow and took some time to get adjusted to the tempo of the game, evident by the score on the board.
"We're happy with the result and took plenty out of the game," chairman Matt Bourke said. "As for our game plan I thought we ran out sets really well against the strongest team in the league.
"Fitness is definitely something we will take out of the game and something we will be doing more of at training."
With a mixture of previous CBL players and rookies to the competition, Bourke said the game was a great measuring point for the players.
"We know what the standard is now and what we need to work on to be competitive against the best in the league," he said.
"Right across the board everyone chipped in and it would be hard picking out the best player of the game.
"Angus (Murray) was probably the best two-way player in the game."
