Leading Senior Constable Dani Richardson, of Ararat, said about 3pm a passer-by spotted the sink and took it to the police station.
"Someone has lost a sink off the back of their car, and it was found on the intersection of Barkly Sreet and Albert Street," she said.
The sink is in custody at the police station.
Police are hoping that someone will be able to come forward so the sink can be returned to its rightful owner.
