Jaye Macumber will take on the top job, returning to coach a Wimmera league side for the first time since he departed from Minyip-Murtoa at the end of 2016.
Macumber helped guide the Burras to a preliminary final and a grand final in the Wimmera Football League in 2015 and 2016.
Macumber said he was excited to help his new club continue to develop.
"I had a good chat with Nhill, and I'm really impressed with what they're trying to do. I'm really looking forward to the challenge," Macumber said.
Macumber has also been coach of the Western Bulldogs under-15 Next Generation Academy side for the last three years.
Macumber said he had aspirations to help Nhill return to finals for the first time since 2010.
"Every club at this stage would be saying they want to play finals the following season, and we are no exception," he said.
"It's just about continuing the development that Tim Bone has started with the local players, and just giving them a game style that works within the Wimmera league and is sustainable."
Macumber said he hoped to instil a stringent defence, similar to the system he enforced at Minyip-Murtoa.
"In 2016, we had a really good regular season, and we were the least scored against side from the previous 15 years," he said.
"That was our strength, having a really defensive mindset ... so I'm aiming for an improved team defence for Nhill in 2020."
Since departing from his last senior coaching role, Macumber also completed the AFL's prestigious Next Coach Program to enhance his coaching.
"The course was great. Guys like (former AFL players) Harry Taylor were in it, Ivan Maric, Dylan Roberton," Macumber said.
"That opened my eyes even further as to how to become a better coach and how to better my coaching to help develop Nhill.
"I'm also coaching director at the club, so I hope I can help other coaches develop and help support them as well."
Nhill president Ash Dickinson said he was hopeful current coach Tim Bone would also stay at the club.
"Tim was quite supportive of us chasing another coach before the end of the season," Mr Dickinson said.
"As far as I know, I think he's still going to be at the club."
