The council has had a shake up with it its public question time guidelines, with people now able to submit questions ahead of time.

In the past, community members would visit council meetings, asking questions that would often need to be followed up at a later date.

People can now submit questions ahead of time either online or through a hard copy form found at council's Stawell and St Arnaud service desks.

"It is a bit of a change, we're always looking for ways to make public question time a smoother and more efficient process for everyone," Northern Grampians Shire mayor Kevin Erwin said.

"The changes will also allow us to be more detailed in our responses."

Questions with notice can be submitted by 12pm on the Monday one week before an ordinary council meeting. Community members wishing to ask questions must still be present at the meeting.

Questions without notice can be still be submitted before the start of an ordinary meeting.
