The bikes were visioned to make a feature fence along memorial park - at the entrance of the town from Ararat but are no longer on display.
Great Western Future Committee president Bruce Ahchow said the bikes were decisive and an unfinished project.
"Feedback from the community was that they wanted them removed until the project could be reinstated as a "finished" works rather than a "works in progress"," he said.
"The plan was to decorate the bikes and make a feature fence along memorial park....the idea to create something interesting, unusual, attractive and to capture the passing traffics eye and have people talking about Great Western."
Mr Ahchow said the plans were consistent with the Destination Great Western approach being driven across media.
"When Great Western is bypassed, we want people to recognise Great Western when they drive past the exit signs and want to pull in," he said.
"The plan is to go back to the drawing diary and revisit the project in the future."
