An unknown number of men broke into the St Arnaud Sporting Club between 3 and 5am on Friday.
"They have done a fair bit of damage," Acting Sergeant Grant Healey said.
"They have done some damage to the roof, as well as the cigarette machine and some of the office area.
"We think they have been scared off by the alarms. It doesn't look like they have stolen anything substantial from what we can see."
Crime scene investigators analysed the scene on Friday.
"We are seeking any witnesses who may have observed anything suspicious to contact St Arnaud Police or Crime Stoppers," Acting Sergeant Healey said.
