The game started in very similar fashion to last week for the Rebels as they were only able to turn three of their 11 first half scoring opportunities into goals.
Coach Mark Greig said the poor kicking was somewhat excusable due to the wet conditions.
The third quarter belonged to Geelong who were able to lock the ball in their half of the ground, booting five goals in the process.
"The Falcons were really impressive, they certainly dominated that third quarter," Greig said.
Facing a 20-point deficit at the final break, Greig remained confident the Rebels could make up the difference.
"After our performance last week we probably expected a performance like that in the last quarter and to their credit they worked hard.
"Last week wasn't just a once off - we have a feeling that we're always in it because these boys just keep coming and coming."
Rebels back Jack Tillig said fixing the simple things was what was most important in the fourth quarter.
"Everyone just got their voice up," he said.
"We started just getting the ball forward instead of mucking around with it around the stoppages."
After working to reduce the Falcons lead, GWV hit the front with two minutes left in the game thanks to a goal from Darcy Mceldrew and were able to hold on for the remainder of the game.
Tillig spoke about the importance of getting the first win on the board for the Rebels 2019 NAB League season.
"There's a very good buzz around the boys, everyone's really excited," he said.
"We've obviously been working since November extremely hard and it's just really rewarding to get the reward I guess."
The Rebels will look to continue their winning ways in their next game on the road against the win-less Murry Bushrangers.
