Stawell Library has taken the lead in organising the inaugural Stawell Amazing Race.
The event will take place around Stawell on April 14, with the start and finish line at the Stawell Town Hall.
The unique and free event will involve teams of four participants completing various challenges throughout Stawell with prizes to be won.
Stawell Library's Sepe Illig said the idea was born about two years ago.
"The idea idea for it came from an informal group brainstorming session I had with Stawell Secondary College students," she said.
"We were discussing what they would like to see in terms of youth engagement in the community - and one of the kids came up with the idea of Stawell's own Amazing Race.
"The idea was not to try and think like a kid, but to ask the kids themselves what they would like."
The library is working in conjunction with other organisations including Central Grampians LLEN, Northern Grampians Shire and Stawell Camera Club to put on the event.
"Our Engage funding is aimed at improving health and wellbeing and social connections for friends, family and the community this joint event is certainly going to achieve these outcomes," Central Grampians LLEN executive officer Ray Campling said.
The event is linked with the Active April theme.
Ms Illig said the course is confidential at this stage, keeping what lies ahead a surprise.
"We will have different pit stops and challenges around Stawell that are all within walking or running distance for those feeling more energetic," she said.
"We even have Stawell Gift starter Ian Sibson helping us out as our starter on the day."
Northern Grampians Shire councillor Karen Hyslop said the event is a good way for people to become engaged within the community.
"Given the Stawell Amazing Race will be taking place over the school holidays, it's a perfect opportunity for families to band together, dress up and have fun while being active and enjoying the challenges on offer," she said.
"It's also a great chance for clubs and community groups to team up, be active and social and take it as seriously, or as easy as they'd like."
Registrations are open until April 12 and can be entered online.
